Fitness product manufacturer TriggerPoint finally entered the massage gun market in 2020 with the introduction of the TriggerPoint Impact Massage Gun. The TriggerPoint Impact is designed like a hammer, with most of its weight concentrated at the top, making it easier to apply force to specific areas. With four variable speeds and attractive tooling, this massage gun packs a nice value proposition at a low price.
As mentioned, the TriggerPoint Impact is designed with four speeds and is extremely quiet. It is incredible that you can now own a quiet, four speed, name brand massage gun at this price. While its top speed reaches 3300 rpm, which rates higher than most competitors, it is definitely not the strongest massage gun we have tested. In fact, amplitude and pounds of pressure output are more important when gauging a massage gun’s power, not the rpm.
While TriggerPoint does not provide a measurable rating for either pounds of pressure or amplitude, our testers rated it a 7 out of 10 in terms of power. Although you can feel a nice massage force when using it, it is not quite as powerful as the high-end massage guns on the market.
In fact, if you have a severe knot or if you are considerably built muscularly, this massage gun will take longer to treat your soreness. As long as top end, raw power is not as essential to you and your massage needs, you will otherwise be satisfied with this massage gun.
In addition, it’s also a plus that you have four speed settings, as you can use these speed options for your desired massage speed (minor to major) on certain areas of your body. You can dial back the power so that the intensity is not too painful for sensitive areas. To find which speed works for you, my recommendation is to start at the lower level for your muscles and its tissues to adjust accordingly.
Rather than just describing the power of the TriggerPoint Impact to you, I’ve also included the below descriptions for how it feels when used on different body areas.
Back: The TriggerPoint Impact Massage Gun is somewhat cumbersome to use on your back, when compared to other massage gun designs. Although you can certainly use it on your traps without assistance from others, it tends to feel heavy when massaging your own back. Furthermore, you will notice that the massage tip tends to jump around if you do not apply enough manual pressure.
Legs: This is the body area where the TriggerPoint Impact Massager really shines. It is easy to use on your own legs, and it really helped loosen up my leg muscles with just the right amount of force. The lower speeds worked well on my calves, as well.
Front Shoulder, Forearms: The lower power settings works well on forearms and other thinner muscular groups.
When it comes to expandability, the TriggerPoint Impact Massage Gun is not equipped with many accessories. Of course, that is to be expected at such a low-price tag. For example, it only includes one built-in universal massage head, which cannot be switched out. The lack of swappable massage heads is deeply disappointing as changing the massage tip can really change the style of massage a great deal and add a lot of value, otherwise.
Furthermore, while it arrives in eye catching packaging, the Impact does not include a carrying case. Since the TriggerPoint Impact is also lightweight and easy to store, this is not a huge drawback.
While it lacks in accessories, the shining feature of the TriggerPoint Impact is its hammer head design. The design makes it easy to balance the distribution of your weight with the angle of its handle. Its top-weighted design allows dexterity and pinpoint targeting. Consequently, it offers better comfort, control, and grip than many other massage guns.
The battery life of TriggerPoint Impact Massage Gun is definitely a plus, as it can last up for 2+ hours on a full charge. It’s quiet, brushless motor is efficiently designed to mitigate noise and maximize its battery life. It runs and operates efficiently and quietly.
It also includes an AC charger for you to be able to charge anytime, anywhere. However, the battery is built in and not swappable, so once the charge runs out, you have to stop use and recharge it.
It is exciting to see a large name brand like TriggerPoint finally introduce a massage gun. While their massage gun provides great value, if you are a serious athlete or someone that gets extreme knots, you may need something more powerful. If you don’t have the budget for higher priced options, this is a nice tool for treating soreness.
Keep the Noise Down: it is extremely quiet and well suited for office use or public settings.
Preferred Budget Option: At the $199 price point, it represents an excellent value for a name brand massager.
Get a Grip: The grip is comfortable and the top-heavy design allows for easy application of pressure. The high-quality materials involved in the design of the massager is evident as you feel and grip the massage gun.
the TriggerPoint Impact Massage Gun provides a name brand, high-quality massage gun at an accessible price point. With four speed settings, a rechargeable battery, and comfortable grip, it delivers the basics of what you are looking for in a massage gun.
